HYROX-Hybrid Core & Zone 2 is our Saturday 9:30 AM race-prep session at Boston Iron Grit in West Roxbury. Coach Miguel (CF-L3) combines zone 2 aerobic conditioning, core strength, hip mobility, breathing work and race skills — with individual and partner formats that simulate race-day tactics for HYROX and other hybrid events.

HYROX-Hybrid Core & Zone 2 — FAQs

Zone 2 is steady aerobic work at a pace where you can still hold a conversation — roughly 60–70% of max heart rate. It builds the mitochondrial base that powers endurance racing and speeds recovery between hard efforts.

No. The session benefits anyone who wants a stronger aerobic engine and better core strength. Many members come simply because it makes their weekday training feel easier.

Tuesday and Thursday focus on race stations and compromised running at intensity. Saturday is the aerobic and skills complement — zone 2 pacing, breathing, hip mobility and partner race tactics.

Coach Miguel Claravall (CF-L3), who combines years of Olympic lifting coaching with breathing and movement work drawn from his martial arts background.

Regular training shoes, water and something to track your heart rate if you have it. Everything else — ergs, sleds, cores of steel — is provided.
